Hydrogen Induced Cracking Test Tanks
Cortest offers Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) test tank designs that can be used to study the corrosive and embrittling effects on metal samples in hydrogen enriched aqueous environments such as those in H2S/Sour Service Applications.
HIC tanks are suitable for samples specified in NACE TM0284 as well as 3 and 4 Point Bend Fixtures specified in both NACE TM0177 and ASTM G39. Rectangular and Cylindrical models can be designed to accommodate any desired volume.
HIC tanks are typically used for ambient temperatures and pressures but can be provided with environmental control coils to allow testing from 0°C to 40°C – with alternative designs available for higher temperature testing.
Test tanks are designed so that they may be installed in any Cortest Fume Hood or any standard laboratory fume hood. Systems in laboratory fume hoods can be paired with gas selection and flow control enclosures for complete solutions.

Cortest Hydrogen Test Enclosures are designed to allow Hydrogen Studies to be safely conducted inside laboratories. These enclosures are equipped with ATEX Certified Ventilation Fans and an Automated Valve Panel in order to declassify the area for use with Autoclave Systems, Load Frames, and DCPD Testing Equipment.
All Hydrogen Test Enclosures are designed with safety in mind and come with detailed Risk Analyses and recommendations for adapting them to meet regional standards and regulations. Each enclosure is equipped with an Emergency Shutdown System that monitors Gas Sensors, Flow Sensors, Intrinsically Safe Pressure Transducers, and Flame Detectors. In the event that abnormal conditions are detected, the system will trigger an alarm and disable all non-essential electronics not designed for use in hazardous areas. Test Enclosures can be customized to include subsystems for specialized testing. Valve Panel designs are available for the addition of a Gas Booster System for testing at pressures higher than the supply pressure. Gas Sub-panels can be added for additional gases including Methane / Natural Gas for gas blending research.
Load Frames may be equipped with DCPD Testing Equipment for crack initiation or fatigue studies. Autoclave Systems may be equipped with gloveboxes and purifiers to enable specimen loading inside innerted environments. Systems can be supplied with Autoclaves that conform to international standards such as PED, CSA, CRN, DOSH, and the China Special Equipment Manufacture License.
